Since the early 1980's the Sommer family has been working to provide Beaver Island with quality centric, dining, shopping, construction, and travel experiences.
Roger & Nancy Sommer
Previous owners of Daddy Franks, Stoney Acre Grill, The Sommer Place gift shop, and Sommer Construction throughout the 1980’s through 2000’s. Roger and Nancy have been longtime island residences with deep ties to the island community.
Nancy started vacationing up to the island in her childhood with her family while her father Thomas Rafferty was employed as a Navy Pilot. Her family (Sisters: Kathy, Joanie, Shannon, Brother: Dan, Mother: Harriet, Father: Thomas) had owned the downtown general store (now the community center) for years where she spent the days and nights stocking shelves and ringing up customers. If you’ve ever been to the Sommer Place or the Christian Church, you’ve likely seen Nancy’s stained glass embossing building windows.
Roger has always been a dreamer and builder. Throughout his life he spent the off season as a high school teacher, and the summer as a full time entrepreneur. He began coming up to the island in the 1970’s, after someone tipped him off that he would like it up there. Roger was always a country western fan, as you can likely tell by the old saloon style building he built that is now the home of EVER Sommer. Roger started many ventures, and seemed to thrive in the rough and tumble days that the island used to, and still continues to be.
Brian & Brandi Sommer
Two young island hoppers have a dream to start a sustainable EV rental company. They met at Western Michigan University in their college years, and have been working on and visiting the island ever since.
Brandi is a long time Social Worker with a passion for people. She has worked in several public service sectors and has been visiting the island for over a decade. She quickly fell in love with the island, and has been a supporter of the dream since day one.
Brian is a full time Product Development Engineer, an Alternatives In Motion Board member and mobility advocate, a 10 year Beaver Island Boat Company veteran, and an aspiring entrepreneur and artist at heart. He spent his summers on Beaver Island from childhood to present, and has always had a deep passion for the island.

We are a deeply passionate band of long time island dwellers that are hyper focused on providing a technology centered, affordable, sustainable, and downright fun and ideal way to traverse Beaver Island.
We truly strive to leave the world and this wonderful island better than we found it, and we can’t wait for you to see it as we always have. Unchanged, unspoiled, and in perfect clarity.
